A degree that reflects interest in a variety of disciplines The Honours Degree in Disability Studies is based on the social model of disability, essential to the program philosophy, as it reflects the rights and anti-oppressive needs of people with disabilities. This emphasis on a social model ensures a collective commitment to social justice and accessibility, as reflected in the disability movement’s slogan: “Nothing about us, without us.” Diversity in the local community, the Human Rights approach undertaken by the Province of Ontario, and a review of the approaches taken by disability studies in other universities and countries strongly influenced development of the program. The programs stresses community support as critical. | 2010-2011 Application deadline EXTENDED to June 30, 2010! |
