Breast cancer profoundly impacts the lives of women, their families, friends, and communities. It is estimated that the average Ontario woman has a 1 in 9 chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime. Therefore, the need
for education and awareness programs for breast health is necessary, but
these are often planned from a medical or health perspective. Art has been
used as a voice for individuals confronting breast cancer, but less
frequently as a health promotion tool. The intent of the project, Examining
Our Breasts and this web site is to increase awareness of breast health and
screening through the creation and exhibition of artwork. This site provides
information about breast health and breast cancer, accessible through
linkages/connections with various web sites.

This project has been funded by The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation,
Ontario Chapter, Community Education Grant.

The development of this web site was described and published in CIN:
Computers, Informatics, Nursing, 20(5), 184-190, entitled “Web site
development: Applying aesthetics to promote breast health education and
awareness”.
