Canadian Institutes of Health Research Investigator, and
Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology

Hi Friend:

Welcome to my academic web page.

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am a social epidemiologist and social welfare researcher. The research questions that I am most interested in involve the interrelationships of health care, social welfare and education policies, and their associations with the health of diverse populations. So far my work has primarily involved North American populations.

In addition to studying how policy changes affect the population at large, I am particularly interested in developing understandings about the relative disadvantages experienced by diverse groups that can be marginalized or oppressed in various ways: such as the under- or uninsured, the poor and people of color.

It is my hope that this work will be part of enabling social policy makers to make clearer decisions that are informed less by the mere ebb and flow of political tides and more by what we truly know about the human condition.

I am presently working on a series of retrospective and prospective comparisons of cancer care and survival in Canada and the United States: "Associations of personal and community resources with cancer care and survival in Canada and the United States: Health care access and effectiveness in diverse urban and rural places, 1985 to 2015." I am also working on a book "The skewed curve: Social solutions to America's social problems." It is based on a series of original systematic reviews and will essentially be a "Bell curve" antithesis.

My colleagues and I typically have a number of graduate research assistantships available. We are also interested in supporting the education of talented undergraduates. My scholarly collegial network includes social and biomedical scientists as well as practicing physicians, social workers and allied health professionals. So we have opportunities for educational support in concert with any number of professional, social or natural scientific programs of study. Please contact me directly for more information about these opportunities.

Perhaps we will work together one day.

Semper Fi,

Kevin Gorey
