Dr. Richard (Rick) J. Caron joined the University of Windsor in 1983 after having earned his PhD in Mathematics (Dept. of Combinatorics and Optimization) from the University of Waterloo. He is a Professor of Mathematics and Statistics. He is also cross appointed to the School of Computer Science and a graduate faculty member for the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Doctoral Program. He served as Dean of Science from 1 July 2000 to 30 June 2008; Executive Dean of Engineering and Science from 1 August 1999 to 30 June 2000, Head of Mathematics and Statistics from 1 January 1991 to 30 June 1997, and Director of the Operational Research Program since 30 June 2001.

Dr. Caron has been listed in the Who's Who of Canada since 1997. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) and he was chair of the CMS Education Committee. He is a past president of the Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS), was the first webmaster (created the first site) and held the position until 2009; and currently serves CORS as an associate editor of their journal INFOR. He is a past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program.

Dr. Caron was general chair of the CORS-SCRO '99 Windsor Annual Conference and of the 5th Annual MOPTA Conference, Windsor, Ontario, July 25-27, 2005. He was a member of the Organizing Committee for ICCOPT 07/MOPTA 07, McMaster University, 2007 where he served as fund-raising chair. He was also on the Program Committee of the MOPTA 2008 conference that was held at the University of Guelph, 18-20 August 2008. He was a member of the Advisory Panel and the invited sessions chair for the 2009 CORS/INFORMS Joint International Meeting to be held at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto from June 14 to 17, 2009. He is on the local organizing committee of the Canadian Mathematical Society's (CMS) 2009 Winter meeting in December in Windsor; and is co-chair of the 2009-2011 National Mathematics Training Camps of the CMS hosted by the University of Windsor.

Dr. Caron serves the community as a founding member of CWEF and served as its first president. Dr. Caron is a member of the Windsor (1918) Rotary Club, has served on their Board of Directors and has been chair of their Youth Services Committee. On July 1, 2008 he will begin the four year vice-president, president-elect, president, and past-president cycle. On May 9 - June 10, 2009 Dr. Caron led the Rotary District 6400 Group Study Exchange (GSE) team to Hungary (District 1911).
