Services in Residence
Front Desk
- residents have access to a front desk which is manned by student staff and is open 24/7
- hours for all buildings will be posted in your building in September
- services available at the front desk include: board games
- check with the RA (Resident Assistant) of your building for specifics
Building Hours
- residences are locked 24/7
- students must use their front door key / swipe card, issued at check-in, for access to their building
- Call Boxes (access telephones) are located outside the front door of each residence building
Mail
- mail is delivered and picked up daily Monday through Friday
- mail boxes are located in the main lobby and box numbers correspond to the room number
- students are provided with a mailbox key
- students will be notified of arriving packages with a yellow package slip in their mailbox
- packages can be picked up at the Cartier residence building and will require the yellow notification slip
- Please note: remind your family and friends not to send money through the mail
- MAIL WILL NOT BE FORWARDED AFTER THE TERMINATION OF THE RESIDENCE LICENCE AND MEAL PLAN AGREEMENT

Light Bulbs
- burned light bulbs can be exchanged for a new ones by bringing the used bulb to the front desk
- ceiling lights requiring bulb replacements should be reported on a yellow work order form
- forms and the work order submission boxes are located beside each residence front desk
- maintenance requests can also be submitted on-line at www.uwindsor.ca/residence.
Housekeeping
- housekeeping staff are responsible for maintaining the public and common areas of the residences
- housekeeping staff are under the direct supervision of Facilities Services
- residents are responsible for the cleanliness and condition of their own room and for personal litter in public and common areas
- students who cause any messes in common areas will be responsible for paying for the additional housekeeping charges
Maintenance
- maintenance staff are full-time employees of the University who are responsible for completing all carpentry, electrical or plumbing maintenance in residence
- students who request repairs or services give implied consent that a maintenance person has permission to enter their residence room
- If students wish to restrict access during certain periods this should be noted on the yellow work order
- access cannot be denied in an emergency situation
- students will be given advance notification of scheduled routine maintenance
- Students may not repair or have repaired, by anyone other than University personnel, any damaged items
- We encourage maintenance requests to be submitted on-line at www.uwindsor.ca/residence
Refuse / Recycling
- refuse rooms are located on each floor and containers are emptied daily
- use caution with glass or sharp objects and place them beside the regular garbage or in containers provided
- all residence halls recycle aluminum cans, fine paper, glass and newspaper. Blue and red boxes are provided for this purpose. Please contribute to the recycling effort.
Kitchens and Microwave Rooms
- every floor in residence has been supplied with a microwave (located in the microwave room or the lounge) for resident use
- students are responsible to clean the microwave on their floor after each use
- students will pay for any damages which may occur through their misuse or abuse of the microwaves
- full kitchen facilities are located in each building for student use
- residents are responsible for cleaning up after they use the kitchens
- kitchens not kept clean may be closed at the discretion of the Residence Life Coordiantor ( see Damages Policy for more details)
Internet and Cable TV
- All rooms have one cable TV and two high speed Internet hook-ups
- cost of cable TV is included in your residence fee; however you must provide your own TV
- all University of Windsor residences are wireless, please visit the IT Services website for information on accessing the system
- access to the wireless internet system on campus is free for all students, you need to have your UWinID in order to login
- students who choose to have high speed cable internet, rather than the wireless package provided, can contact COGECO Cable to arrange for cable internet (at your own expense)
Telephones
- mandatory service which costs $25.00 per month and is included in your residence fees
- each residence student is supplied with a residence telephone line (there are two lines in every double room)
- system includes voice mail and conference calling
- students must provide their own telephone handset
- a competitive long distance package is offered through Primus Canada, however, students are free to choose their own long distance provider
Laundry
- each building is equipped with laundry facilities
- cost to use these machines is included in your residence fees ($90.00 designated as laundry money will be loaded on your UWin Card)
- student UWin card is used to operate the laundry machines
- students may load additional money onto their UWin card at their own expense at any time
- residence students’ fees directly pay for the provision and maintenance of the laundry facilities
- resident students are asked for cooperation in not allowing non-residents to do laundry in the residence halls and limit laundering to your own personal items
- if a machine does not work, please call 1-800-561-1972 to report the malfunction
Storage
- located in the basement of each residence building
- limited space for the storage of foot lockers, trunks, and suitcases
- furniture cannot be stored
- residents are personally responsible for items placed in the storage rooms
- University of Windsor assumes no responsibility for missing or damaged items
- we recommend that students purchase insurance on the personal belongings to cover the full year
Vacuum Cleaners
- vacuum cleaners are available to be checked out at the front desk of your building
- student UWin card will be held as security
- students must return the vacuums promptly and in good working order
- vacuums are provided for each unit in Clark and each wing in Alumni Hall.
Clothing Donation Bins
- clothing donation bins are located in the residence buildings
Lost and Found
- located at the front office in each building
- articles found in residence or residence area should be given to the residence front office or to the Resident Assistant on that floor
- inquire about lost items at the front office of each residence hall or at the Campus Community Police Office.
