ADMISSION
See Section 1.6.1 of the Graduate Calendar for general admission requirements for graduate studies:
<http://www.uwindsor.ca/grad>
Normally, successful applicants will have an Honours B.A. in Communication/Media Studies or a cognate field. However, students lacking this formal requirement, but having equivalent qualifications (for example, students with a general B.A. and significant experience with a social justice agency or having engaged for a significant time in social justice related activities), are also encouraged to apply. Students lacking formal admission requirements but admitted to the Program on the basis of equivalent experience may be required to enrol in a qualifying year prior to formal admission to the Program.
Applicants should submit a portfolio to Liaison and Applicant Services—Graduate Division, consisting of the following: (i) a completed application form; (ii) a statement of purpose (approximately 500-700 words) outlining the students’ interest in pursuing a graduate degree in Communication and Social Justice at the University of Windsor and potential area(s) of research concentration; (iii) a curriculum vitae; (iv) an official transcript of grades attained in all undergraduate courses; (v) two confidential letters of recommendation from post-secondary faculty members most familiar with the students’ work on official forms from the Faculty of Graduate Studies (letters, in addition to the forms, are preferred); (vi) a substantial sample of writing from upper-level undergraduate courses and/or a media/multimedia portfolio; and (vii) for students whose native language is not English, a minimum score of 640 on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or 7.5 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is required.
Applications should be received by January 15. Early applications (prior to Jan.15) are encouraged since tuition waiver scholarships will be considered for highly qualified students (minimum ‘A-’ GPA or equivalent). (Subject to Graduate Faculty selection criteria).
Additionally, applicants should refer to the University of Windsor Graduate Calendar for further requirements and procedures. M.A. program applications are available from Liaison and Applicant Services. The application is on-line from http://web4.uwindsor.ca/grad
