Pan-American Junior Athletics Championships

The Pan-American Junior Athletics Championships is a world-class track and field meet held every two years featuring some of the western hemisphere’s best up and coming junior-aged athletes (19 years-and-under). The University of Windsor was chosen among many competing organizations to host the 2005 championships. From July 28-July 31, 2005, 600 athletes from 42 countries competed in front of over 22,000 fans during this four day event. The plans for a new world-class University of Windsor stadium was cited as one of the reasons the city of Windsor was chosen to host this event.

Over 500 community volunteers, as well as the University of Windsor staff, and the City of Windsor ensured its success the success of the games. It is estimated the Pan-Am Games injected over $2 million dollars into the local economy. Hosting the Pan-Am Games demonstrated the capacity and possibilities that the new stadium presents, not only for the University of Windsor, but for the greater Windsor-Essex community as well.
