Located at the foot of the Ambassador Bridge, North America’s busiest border crossing, the Gateway concept will showcase landscape, art and opportunities for corporate promotion and advertising that will be visible to thousands of visitors and commuters each day. The Toronto firm of Brook McIlroy Inc. and Associates, designers of Windsor’s waterfront Odette Sculpture Garden, were chosen to design the Gateway. A naming opportunity for the new state-of-the-art stadium facility is indicated in the design.

On June 20, 2006, The Canadian Transit Company matched the University of Windsor's Students Alliance $2-million commitment with their own, a $2-million match.

"The bridge and the university have been neighbours for a long time, and now we are really partners for the future," Moroun said at a celebration Tuesday in the stadium. The Moroun family owns the Canadian Transit Company and through it, the Ambassador Bridge.

Former University of Windsor president Ross Paul (right) presents a framed print of photos from last summer's Pan-American Junior Games to members of the Moroun family—from left: Manuel (Matty), Nora, and Matthew—in appreciation for their $2 million donation to the university's stadium.

Dan Stamper, president of the Canadian Transit Company, says the donation is a challenge to government and other corporate sponsors to mark the landmark gateway facility as a community project the area can be proud of.
