What is Environmental Engineering?
Environmental engineers are trained not only to solve environmental problems of immediate concern, but also to develop practices and processes to systematically avoid their occurrence in order to improve the quality of life and the environment. Environmental engineering concerns itself with control of soil, water and air pollution, water supply and wastewater treatment, risk management, hazardous and solid waste management, and industry health and safety. Novel areas include lifecycles analysis (e.g. vehicle recycling), environmental forensics, biotechnology, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Cutting edge technology is often required, necessitating well-educated engineers for development and application.
Why Environmental Engineering?
An environmental engineering degree will provide access to the engineering profession in Canada and abroad with a range of challenging and rewarding career opportunities. Multidisciplinary solutions require broadly educated engineers with communication, management and teamwork skills, which are our priority too!

Program Profile
Four-Year Environmental Engineering Degree (co-op available)
All University of Windsor engineering programs begin with a general first year providing students flexibility in program choice. Courses in second year include environmental engineering, chemistry, chemistry, biology, and option courses. Third and fourth year involve core environmental courses in air and water pollution control, water resources, groundwater, hydrology, risk management and site assessment, hazardous and solid waste management, industrial hygiene, and environmental regulations (Canada and U.S.), as well as a number of option courses. A fourth year capstone design project emphasizes teamwork and international competition. If a program emphasis (pre-health program, business) is not chosen students may pursue interests in other areas (e.g. history, English). Co-op is available after first year.
Pre-medicine/Pre-health
This program satisfies all courses requirements for entry to medical school after third year. This gives students the opportunity at various stages of their education to change direction and gain professional degrees in engineering and / or medicine.
Business Management Emphasis/Option
Courses are available from the Faculty of Business during the upper years to enable emphasis in business management. A business minor can be obtained in one additional term.
