Financial Assistance Available
- Students who are the recipients of any ongoing awards administered through the University of Windsor Awards Office remain eligible for these while on exchange, on the same basis as if they had remained in Windsor. Students receiving externally-administered awards should check with the organization involved. Students on the Outstanding Scholars Award program retain this on exchange, but need to make advanced arrangements with their academic unit to fulfil the employment portion.
- Students on OSAP retain eligibility while on exchange, but must make arrangements for someone to have a power of attorney to receive the funds. Consult the Awards Office for details.
- Students on exchange who are Ontario residents may apply for our International Travel Bursary. Awards of up to $750 per term are available to students who take a full course load through a University of Windsor Exchange Program. Students must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents and residents of Ontario, have completed at least three courses at the University of Windsor with a cumulative average of at least 8.0 and demonstrate financial need. Applications should be submitted on-line no later than: October 31st for Fall or Fall/Winter study periods; February 15 for Winter term only. Application is on-line via the Student Information System (SIS). (there is a version of this award that is available to full-time international students as well)
- Students on exchange in the Odette School of Business may apply for the Sandra Berlasty Award - Value: $600. Awarded annually to Canadian or Permanent Residents enrolled full time in the Odette School of Business in the year of studies appropriate to the exchange being applied for. The award is open to both graduate and undergraduate students and is based on good academic standing. The recipient is expected to return to the University of Windsor on completion of the exchange program. Application is on-line via the Student Information System (SIS) October 15.
- Ontario International Education Opportunity Scholarship (OIEOS) - The Government of Ontario has allocated the funding to create a number of Ontario International Education Opportunity Scholarships valued at $2500 each for students completing part of their academic program abroad. This scholarship will provide eligible students with financial support for an eligible period of academic study, work term or co-op placement outside of Canada. Participants must be Canadian, Permanent Resident or Protected Persons status students. Application is on-line via the Student Information System (SIS)
- Students in Sociology may apply for the Ehrentraut Award. One award, valued at $500, is awarded annually to a Year 3 or 4 Sociology student participating in an exchange Program. Candidates must have a minimum 5.0 cumulative G.P.A. and demonstrate financial need. Established in 1998 by Margaret Ehrentraut in memory of her husband, Professor Adolf Ehrentraut. Application is on-line via the Student Information System (SIS) Deadline: February 15.
- Anita W. and Arthur Wendt Award in German - Awarded to the German Major student returning for Year 3 or 4, with the highest major average in German program courses (minimum 3 German language program courses) who demonstrates financial need. Preference given to a student registered in the Ontario Baden Wurttemberg Exchange Program. Established in 2003 in honour of Anita W. and Arthur Wendt by Susan Wendt Hildebrandt. Application is on-line via the Student Information System (SIS)
- Martha & Werner Hildebrandt Award - Value: $500. Awarded to the Year 2,3 or 4 student registered full-time in Communication Studies. Preference given to a Communication Studies student going on an exchange. Based on good academic standing (minimum GPA of 8.0), and proven financial need. Successful candidate must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, who meets Ontario residency requirements. Application is on-line via the Student Information System (SIS) Deadline: October 15.
- The Swedish Women's Educational Association (SWEA) , of Toronto, offers a scholarship to Ontario students participating in an official exchange in Sweden. The award is up to $1500 for two semesters, or $1000 for one. Students eligible for this scholarship will be contacted by Windsor International after they have been selected for exchange. Applications are sent via the Exchange Office.
- German Canadian Business and Professional Association Bursary, worth $500. Awarded to a full time student registered in Year 3 or 4 in the Faculty of Business Administration, who is enrolled in a student exchange program in Germany. Based on citizenship (must be Canadian citizen), academic achievement (minimum cumulative average of 9.5) and proven financial need. Application is on-line via the Student Information System (SIS)
- The Association des départements d’études françaises des universités de l’Ontario (ADEFUO) offers an award ($500) to undergraduate French majors, whose first language is not French. This award is open to all Ontario students participating in a study program in France or in Québec. The prize is awarded on the basis of a short essay to be written at the French Department at the end of the Winter (Jan-Apr) session. The main criterion is competence in written French. Information on eligibility and application procedures can be obtained from the French program office at the University of Windsor.
- Mrs. Murielle Whissel - Three awards to be allocated annually to full-time students participating in French Studies exchange programs at the Universite de Nice or the Universite du Quebec a Montreal. The awards are based on good academic standing (minimum major GPA in French Studies of 9), and financial need. Successful candidates must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents, meeting OSAP Ontario residency requirements. Application is on-line via the Student Information System (SIS) Deadline: September 30.
- La Bourse des Anciens du programme de français - An annual bursary of $200 based on financial need and academic performance, to a student taking part in the Third Year Abroad program at the University of Nice. Contact the French department for more information.
- The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) awards International Learning Grants to Canadian students studying overseas. Information may be found on their web site, http://www.cbie.ca
