University of Windsor
Windsor Law and the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Law, recently established the Windsor-Western Forum on International Humanitarian Law. The Forum is the product of the combined efforts of Windsor's Dr. Christopher Waters, Associate Dean and an internationally recognized scholar in the area of International Humanitarian Law or the Law of Armed Conflict, as it is sometimes called, and Professor Valerie Oosterveld of Western Ontario.
Associate Dean Waters travelled with 18 Windsor Law students to Western's Law Faculty on 15 October to attend the first Forum. The Forum's participants heard from Red Cross legal advisers and a Canadian Forces' JAG officer on the question of civilians participating in hostilities -- a topic of obvious relevance given Canadian involvement in Afghanistan. Students engaged in case studies throughout the day. The second Forum will be hosted by Windsor Law next year.
