The Faculty of Law will play host to this conference, which will bring together legal and planning academics and practitioners from across Canada. The conference will consider the relationship between the enjoyment of private property rights and overriding public interest concerns, with a focus on the urban context. Conference presentations will address a variety of sub-themes including urban renewal, land use planning, expropriation, environmental controls on private property, and heritage preservation.
The opening keynote address on March 11 will be given by Professor Bruce Ziff (Faculty of Law, University of Alberta). The lunchtime plenary address on March 12 will be given by Professor Harvey Jacobs (Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Gaylord Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison).
The conference will also signal the launch of a Canadian - bilingual and bijuridical – electronic network of individuals with interests in the study and practice of property law. / La conférence marquera également le lancement d’un réseau électronique – bilingue et bi-juridique – d’individus à l’échelle du Canada qui partagent un intérêt pour l’étude et la pratique du droit des biens.
