Key Sources of Statistics - Canadian
Statistics Canada is the primary source for Canadian statistics. See in particular:

E-Stat - has census data and CANSIM, which is Statistics Canada's time series database. It contains data on a wide variety of social and economic aspects of Canadian life. The data collected is from Statistics Canada and other agencies such as the Bank of Canada, CMHC, etc.
CANSIM on CHASS at the University of Toronto has the same CANSIM data as E-Stat, but may be more current as E-Stat is updated annually, wheras the CHASS database is updated daily.
Key Sources of Statistics - International
UNData (formerly the U.N. Common Database) Data collected by the United Nations - a very comprehensive source of comparative international statistics, covering demographics, social issues, finance, governance, trade, etc.
World Bank Data has data covering finance and development, agriculture, demographics, etc. The World Development Inidcators are especially useful.
SourceOECD Comparative data for OECD countries on government expenditures, health, education systems, population growth, economic output, etc.
Key Sources of Data For Analysis
Inter-University Consortium For Political and Social Research (ICPSR) is the world's largest archive of social science data. International in focus but majority of the data is American.
Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) provides access to Statistics Canada microdata for research.

International Household Survey Network survey catalog has links to international household economic and social surveys, primarily on developing countries.
Global Barometer Surveys - regional political and public opinion surveys conducted in Asia, Latin America, Africa and Arab countries.
World Values Survey - a global survey of attitudes and values.
