Lancers drop football opener 23-14 to Ottawa
Lancer quarterback Sam Malian passed for 273 yards including a touchdown to receiver Jordan Brescacin in a 23-14 loss to the Ottawa Gee Gees to open the 2010 campaign, Tuesday, August 31, at Alumni Field.
Brescacin finished with six catches for 74 yards; teammate Cory Fernandes contributed 113 yards on eight catches. Fifth-year kicker Robert Eeuwes added a convert, a rouge and a pair of field goals to close out Windsor’s scoring. Daryl Townsend made six solo tackles and assisted on four more to lead the Lancer defence.
Ottawa, ranked fifth in the nationwide poll by Canadian Interuniversity Sport, is the top-ranked squad in the province. Gee Gees quarterback Brad Sinopoli passed for 345 yards, including two touchdowns, and led all rushers with 126 yards.

The Lancers play two road games, September 6 against Toronto and September 12 against Queen’s, before returning home to host the Western Mustangs on Saturday, September 18. That game starts at 7 p.m.
