Friends gather to honour music grad
There are no friends like old friends, as the School of Music knows well. Its students and graduates have benefitted from a lifelong association with Friends of Music. The group has been presenting awards to students from the School of Music since its founding in 1967.
Members Iris Brown, Shirley Ann Durocher, Jane Ann Elliott and Betty Scherer had all originally belonged to the now-defunct University Women’s Auxiliary. They were present at a luncheon in the Music Building on Monday, August 30, for an awards presentation.
This year's recipient, recent grad John Wiebe (BMus 2010), was recognized for his all-round accomplishment. In addition to his excellent academic record, Wiebe is a talented violist and arranger. He is heading off to Halifax this week to begin graduate studies in musicology at Dalhousie University.
John Wiebe (centre) receives several "must-have" music reference books from members of the Friends of Music: Jane Ann Elliott, Betty Scherer, Shirley Anne Durocher and Iris Brown.
