Kaye Johnson appointed Director of the Office of Human Rights, Equity and Accessibility
The University of Windsor is proud to announce the appointment of Kaye Johnson as the first Director of the Office of Human Rights, Equity and Accessibility.

Kaye Johnson |
Johnson most recently held a position with the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board in Nova Scotia for the past 12 years, serving as the Race Relations, Cross Cultural Understanding and Human Rights Coordinator. Prior to this position, she was a regional educator for the Black Educators Association/Black Learners Advisory Committee in Nova Scotia and also has 17 years of experience working for the Canadian Air Force Reserves.
In her new role, Johnson will have responsibility for providing support to people in need of help regarding human rights matters; to revise existing and development policies to guide institutional practices and goals related to human rights, diversity, equity and accessibility; and to provide education that will help the university community become more aware of its obligations, commitments and aspirations as they relate to these important goals. The Office of Human Rights, Equity and Accessibility will serve all faculty, staff and students and for that reason, will report directly to the President’s Office. |
“Kaye’s appointment is a reflection of the importance of the university’s strategic commitment to uphold the highest standards of human rights and freedoms,” said University of Windsor President Alan Wildeman. “I am delighted that she will be bringing an extensive background in policy development, education programs and research to the university during this important time.”
Johnson has a Master of Social Work degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree, both from Carleton University. With more than 25 years experience in the diversity and human rights field, she recognizes the importance of this new role and the positive impact the office will have on strengthening the diverse composition of the campus community.
“I am thrilled with this wonderful opportunity,” Johnson said. “I am looking forward to working alongside a dynamic team, while getting to know the students, staff, faculty, and community of the University of Windsor. Together we can make new strides in the area of social justice.”
She will be joining the University of Windsor on September 1, 2010.
