Learning community to address enhancing the classroom learning environment
Members of the University teaching community on campus are establishing a learning community to explore and discuss the challenges and opportunities of creating engaging learning environments in the classroom.
The learning community will meet regularly to engage in active, collaborative discussions about enhancing aspects of their teaching practice. This forum provides safety and support for those seeking to discover, attempt, assess, and adopt new teaching methods.
Topics of discussion will be generated by the group, but may include classroom management, educational and non-educational uses of technology, and personal approaches to teaching practice. The community will share their experiences, solutions, and ongoing challenges in teaching, and explore strategies, principles, and approaches found in teaching and learning literature.
“There have been many changes in student attitudes and expectations, best practices, and classroom technologies in the years that I’ve been teaching,” says women's studies professor Heather Hartley, a founding member. “I’m looking forward to the collaboration of this learning community as we share our experiences, resources, and solutions for in-class engagement.”
The Enhancing the Classroom Learning Environment learning community will meet as a series of brown bag lunch sessions. To participate, download the short survey from the Centre for Teaching and Learning: http://apps.medialab.uwindsor.ca/ctl/downloads/ECLE_questionnaire.docx, fill it in, and return it to Hartley by e-mail at hhartley@uwindsor.ca by March 18.
For more information, contact Hartley at 519-253-3000, ext. 2902 or Nick Baker, Centre for Teaching and Learning, ext. 4925.
