SOCIAL WORK

Honours Bachelor of Social Work

Total courses: forty-four.

Major requirements: 47-117, 47-118, 47-210, 47-211, 47-302, 47-303, 47-336, 47-337, 47-344, 47-361, 47-362, 47-363, 47-364, 47-436, 47-437, 47-448, 47-461, 47-462, 47-463, and 47-464; plus six Social Work elective courses at the 300 or 400 level.

Other requirements:
(a) 01-150, 01-151;

(b) 02-250;
(c) two courses from Science;
(d) eight courses from Arts, Languages, or Social Sciences, excluding Social Work;
(e) three courses from any area of study, excluding Social Work.
(f) two courses at the 300-400 level from any area of study including Social Work


RECOMMENDED COURSE SEQUENCE
Year 1: 01-150, 01-151, 47-117, 47-118, and six course options (Recommended: 46-115, 46-116, 48-101, 48-102).
Year 2: (Ten courses) 47-210, 47-211, 02-250, and seven course options (Recommended: 46-223, 46-224, 46-225, 48-204).
Year 3: (Twelve courses) 47-302, 47-303, 47-336, 47-337, 47-344, 47-361, 47-362, 47-363, 47-364 plus additional Social Work electives at the 300 or 400 level.
Year 4: (Twelve courses) 47-436, 47-437, 47-448, 47-461, 47-462, 47-463, 47-464 plus additional senior Social Work electives at the 300 or 400 level.


Honours Bachelor of Social Work Program for students commencing Fall 2010:

Major requirements: 47-117, 47-118, 47-210, 47-302 (renumbered 204 – see form 5 attached), 47-303 (4XX), 47-336, 47-337, 47-344, 47-361 (3XX Field Preparation), 47-363 and 47-364 (4XX Field Education I, 6 credit hours), 47-436 (3XX), 47-437 (3XX), 47-461 and 47-462 and 47-463, and 47-464 (4XX,Field Education II, 12 credit hours), 47-4XX (HBSE, assessment and intervention through an Integration Seminar), 47-4XX (Theory and Practice Integration seminar), one of 47-4XX (Special Topics in Social Work and Women’s Studies), 47-4XX (Special Topics in Social Work and Diaspora Studies), 47-4XX (Special Topics in Social Work and Disability Studies).

(d) a minimum of six courses from one of the disciplines or programs of study listed below:
Communication Studies, Labour Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Women’s Studies, Political Science, Family Studies, Diaspora Studies and Disability Studies and a minimum of six courses from any discipline or program of study in the Faculty of Arts and Social Science including a second choice from the list above*, plus three courses from any area of study;
[* Six courses from a discipline outside the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences may be undertaken with the written approval of the Undergraduate Coordinator for the School of Social Work]
OR
(e) 10 courses from a cognate discipline, as defined by the area, plus five courses from any area of study

Phasing out of previous curriculum: Program advisors will determine appropriate exceptions for students who are completing their program under the previous curriculum and who fall out of sequence.
