Five Year Plan Annual Status Report
It was AGREED that
• the following comment should be added under Objective 2: “The area is encouraged to continue monitoring the success of economics tutoring service.”
• Objective 3 - ‘Comments’ should read: “PDC congratulates the area on its enrolment increase and encourages ...”
• the statement under ‘Additional Comments’ should read: “PDC commends the area on its enrolment increase and notes that ...”

International Relations and Development Studies Undergraduate Program Review Annual Status Report
It was AGREED that
• the ‘Comments’ under Recommendation 2 should read: “PDC notes that the area has satisfied the first part of the recommendation by creating two courses in development studies, including third world politics, and encourages...”
• Recommendation 5 should be marked “satisfied”.
• the ‘Comments’ under Recommendation 7 should read: “PDC encourages the area to approach the Office of International and Development Research, Education and Training (IDRET) for assistance with CIDA grant applications and looks forward to hearing more on new international development/research project initiatives.”

Political Science Undergraduate Program Review Annual Status Report
It was AGREED that
• the following be added under Recommendation 4 - ‘Comments’: “PDC notes that Political Science continues to employ a senior International Relations and Development Studies student to offer tutorials in Economics and encourages the area to continue with this initiative.”
• minor editorial changes were made to the ‘Comments’ under Recommendations 3 and 5.

Five Year Plan Annual Status Report
It was AGREED that
• the following comment should be added under Objective 12: “PDC notes the area’s recruitment and retention efforts and encourages it to continue them.”
• minor editorial changes were made to the ‘Comments’ under Objective 1.

Undergraduate Program Review Annual Status Report
It was AGREED that
• the following comment should be added under Recommendation 2: “PDC notes that given increased enrolments, a case can likely be made for additional resources.”
• the following comment should be added under Recommendation 3: “PDC suggests that the Head and the Dean, in consultation with the Budget Committee, work to clarify the resource issues outlined above.”
• Recommendation 5 -‘Comments’ should read: “PDC requests that the area specify whether it intends to consider further the development of a separate (part-time) program, specially designed to meet the needs of part-time and non-traditional students. PDC notes that it might be useful for the University to establish a task force to consider ways of structuring part-time education to meet the needs of differing student groups.”
• Recommendation 10 - ‘Comments’ should read: “PDC PDC encourages the area to continue to pursue improvements in student counselling, through the assignment of counselling duties to faculty members as part of their regular workload and other initiatives.”
• the following should be added under Recommendation 11 - ‘Comments’: “PDC [...] . PDC notes that this kind of faculty-student collaboration is positive, especially where students are provided the opportunity to choose and manage their own research project within a faculty member’s research agenda.”

It was AGREED that
• minor editorial changes were made to the ‘Comments’ under Objective 2.

Undergraduate Program Review Annual Status Report
It was AGREED that
• the ‘Comments’ under Recommendation 1 should read: “PDC notes that the School has a Community Advisory Committee in place (Five Year Plan Third Annual Status Report, Objective 2) and requests that it clarify the relationship between the Community Advisory Committee and the Field Advisory Committee, in its next annual status report.”
• the following should be added to the second paragraph under Recommendation 1.3 - ‘Comments’: “In addition [...] . Such initiatives (professional workshops/conferences) would provide faculty members with the opportunity to share research results and receive feedback on current research projects.
• the following comment should be added under Recommendation 2.3: “PDC requests that the area respond to the recommendation that consideration be given to increasing enrolment limits in core social work courses, thereby freeing up faculty to teach elective (specialized) courses.”
• the following comment should be added under Recommendation 3.2: “PDC notes that two new faculty appointments have been made.”
• Recommendation 4.1 be marked “on target” and that the following comment be added: “PDC encourages the area to continue to monitor grade distributions with a view to minimizing 1) grade inflation and 2) grade discrepancies between sections of the same course.”
• minor editorial changes were made to the ‘Comments’ under Objective 1.4, and 2.2.

The special PDC meeting to review the PDC draft reports on the Areas’ Five Year Plan and Undergraduate Program Review (Annual Status) Report will be continued on January 14, 2003.
