Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, effective July 1, 2012 for a term of three to five years according to Senate By-law 8.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is the largest academic unit in the University of Windsor. Comprised of approximately 188 full-time faculty members and 3 limited term appointments; 4 ancillary academic staff; 49 support staff; approximately 6,400 full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students, it offers more than 50 undergraduate and 12 graduate programs, and is supported by an annual budget of $31,000,000.

The applicants must hold a tenured appointment in the Faculty, preferably at the rank of Full Professor, a solid record of academic research, engagement in graduate programming and research or university administration experience.

The Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies is an integral part of the academic leadership team in the Office of the Dean and is expected to work closely with the Dean and Heads of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, the Associate Vice-President, Research, and the Associate Deans of Research in other faculties. Associate Decanal responsibilities include matters pertaining to the support and promotion of faculty research as well as strategic support and development of graduate studies, across the diverse creative and research interests of the Arts and Social Sciences’ disciplines.

Duties also include assisting faculty with the preparation of research grant applications and working on fund-raising linked to research initiatives. The incumbent may represent the Faculty and the Dean on committees inside and outside the Faculty, undertake other tasks and special assignments essential to the smooth functioning of the Faculty and may also serve as Acting Dean in the Deans absence.

Applications and nominations should include a curriculum vitae and a 1-2 page vision statement outlining the candidate’s perspective on the research mission and goals of the Faculty during the next five years and in particular the role of the Deans Office. Candidates should also arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted.
