This project was made possible by a Standard Research Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, awarded in 1999 and completed in 2003.

Further support came from the Falconer Madan award of the Bibliographical Society (London) and a University of Windsor Award for Excellence in Research & Scholarship. Much of the research was carried out in England in 2000, when I was a Visiting Fellow at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge and held a Centre for the Book Fellowship at the British Library.
