Welcome to the Sale Lab

In a sense, this is a virtual lab -- since May 2007 it has lacked any physical existence on the UW campus. That does not mean that research does not coninue, in the field and at my desk. Current research concerns ecology and management of tropical coastal marine ecosystems and their fishes. One principal focus has been on Connectivity among reef fish populations due primarily to dispersal of pelagic larval stages. All current research is in the context of major international development projects managed through United Nations University's Canada-based unit, the International Network on Water Environment and Health -- UNU-INWEH, for short (www.inweh.unu.edu)

"Around the world, coral reef resources are declining due to lack of management, mis-management and over-fishing. We already understand reef ecology sufficiently to be certain that greater fishery yields, greater tourist revenues, and longer-term viability of coral reef systems would all result from informed management."
