SOCIAL WORK/ PSYCHOLOGY
BA Honours in Disability Studies for College of Applied Arts and Technology Graduates
Total courses:
30 courses, plus a minimum of a 2 year College of Applied Arts and Technology diploma in a health, human service or social service area with the following stipulations:
• No more than 7 courses can be at the 100 level.
• In cases where a student previously completed a university course or courses, the course(s) will not be used to fulfil the thirty course degree requirements if they were used by the College of applied Arts and Technology to grant advanced standing to the diploma program. In such cases, the Interdisciplinary Disability Studies Committee will identify a substitute course requirement.
Major requirements:
18 courses, including:
(a) two courses: 02-46-115/02-46-116 (Introductory Psychology)
(b) four Disability Studies-Emphasis courses:38-101;47-210; two of: 01-01-204, 01-01-209, 01-24-378, 01-24-471, 01-26-280, 02-43-403, 01-32-211, 01-32-330, 01-32-420, 01-34-129, 02-46-256, 02-46-323, 02-46-334, 02-46-427, 02-46-445, 02-38-321, 02-47-302, 02-47-303, 02-47-305, 02-47-346, 02-47-356, 02-47-410, 11-63-351.
(c) one social science research methods course: 46-230 or 47-344
(d) three human development courses: 46-223, 46-224,46-225;
e) four Disability Studies courses: 37-301, 37-302 , 37-401, 37-402 ;
(f) four courses:
i)
37-461 (Disability Studies Community Practice) (12 credit hour course or four course equivalent). This course is available to students with experience in working with persons with disabilities or who are establishing a skill set to work with a specific disability population. (Prerequisite: approval of Disability Studies Academic Coordinator)
OR ii)
37-465 (Community Orientation to Disability Issues) (6 credit hour course or two course equivalent) plus two Disability Studies-Emphasis courses in addition to those taken to satisfy (b) from: 01-302, 01-209, 24-378, 24-471, 26-280, 43-403, 32-211, 32-330, 32-420, 34-129, 46-256, 46-323, 46-334, 46-427, 46-445, 38-321, 47-204, 47-303, 47-305, 47-346, 47-356, 47-410, 63-351. This course sequence will be taken by students not undertaking service delivery work with persons with specific disabilities. (Prerequisite: approval of Disability Studies Academic Coordinator)
Option requirements:
4 courses, including:
(a) two courses from Arts;
(b) two courses from Languages or Science;
Other requirements:
8 courses, including:
(a) 02-250 (Basic Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences);
(b) 7 courses from any area of study.
